Day 23 of the National Cybersecurity Awareness Month ‪#‎NCSAM‬! As I considered what to write about this morning I asked myself a few questions. - Why is it people do not seem to take cybersecurity serious until they are a victim? - Why do people seem (at least in my perspective reading daily about cybersecurity as a matter of routine) not to have good security habits with all of their devices as the number of connected devices grows..think ‪#‎IoT‬. - Does the size of the device's keypad affect the complexity of your passwords? - Are we less likely to apply good security habits to our smart phones which are actually computers with more computing capacity than some of the desktop computers we were using just 10 years ago because we think of them as phones? - How can I help convince others it's important to apply the same principles of cybersecurity to all their connected devices because a vulnerability in one can result in a compromise of all? I believe people ar ...

Day 22 of the National Cybersecurity Awareness Month ‪#‎NCSAM‬! I cannot believe how fast the time is going. While we were all asleep somewhere in the world hackers were working diligently to gain access to many different resources on the Internet. Your greatest security weakness may not be your home or small business network but may actually be from those who you have entrusted with your information. Banking, shopping, hobby, education, and healthcare organizations to name a few who are well connected to the Internet.

Wow! Today is day 21 of the National Cybersecurity Awareness Month‪ #‎NCSAM‬. Keeping with this weeks theme I want to pose a question rather than give information. This is actually a question I received from one of my very few followers ‪#‎BSpector‬ on Twitter who I have no connection to except through Twitter although we share a common passion for‪ #‎Cybersecurity‬ and helping others learn to be more ‪#‎CyberAware‬. <Quote> Are you intrigued by any 'no password' authentication technologies being talked about? </Quote>

This next week begins the fourth week of the National Cybersecurity Awareness Month #NCSAM where the focus is on the “smart world” we live in and the importance of educating all citizens on cybersecurity as more and more of the devices we use – from phones and tablets to homes and medical devices – become connected to the Internet. Week four provides a current snapshot of technology and where we envision technology taking us in the future.

Day 16 of the National Cybersecurity Awareness Month ‪#‎NCSAM‬ and we are half way through the month. By now I know you are applying some of the principles we've discussed and are on your way to being more ‪#‎CyberAware‬! We all love taking pictures with our smart phone camera and sharing them with our friends and family. Our children imitate us and in many ways exaggerate our behaviors which can be funny. There can be a danger in taking pictures with your phones because many of them are automatically geotagged due to default settings. To learn more check out this Youtube video by Kansas City's 41https://youtu.be/N2vARzvWxwY. You may also want to read a presentation developed by the US Army about the dangers of geotaged photos http://goo.gl/DE4Lk. There are some very good reasons why you would want to geotag a photo but it should be by choice rather than by default.

Day 14 of the National Cybersecurity Awareness Month ‪#‎NCSAM‬. I haven't really been following the themes for 2015 with my posts but want to do so over the next few days by focusing on mobile security (Ala your smartphone/notepad etc) and use of social media. The US Navy Criminal Investigative Service along with the Federal Bureau of Investigations developed several social media smart guides that can help you understand the security settings offered by four of today's top social media networks, Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, and Google+. Follow this link to the Navy's guidance on the use of Social Media. Learn to be more‪ #‎CyberAware‬. http://goo.gl/UkP8Wm
